Why you guys build up this website? |

We are studying on a research topic, "Large-Scale Ranking by Paired Comparisons." Hotter or Notter is one of the applications in this project. This website help us collect enough votes to generate photo ranking. Then we will compare our results with "Hot or Not" and other ranking systems. |

How can you generate photo ranking? |
| A: |
Briefly speaking, we carefully select pairs to compare, and then obtain the ranking with effictient algorithms modified
from Bradley and Terry Model. The algorithm associates photos with respective "merits", denoted by a "merit vector". Then
we consider about maximizing a log-likelihood funtion of this merit vector. Finally we sort photos by their merits and obtain
the ranking.

Why don't you accept males' pictures? |

Currently, we want to keep our system simple. So only female photos are accepted. However some pictures are wrongly
recoded by "Hot or Not", so sometimes you may see a man's picture. |

Our system is in its very young age. There are not enough votes yet. |
